Nishanthe Full-Circle Learning Academy

The Nishanthe Full-Circle Learning Academy in Chennai, India began with 15 students in a building next to the childhood home of its namesake, the late Nishanthe Selvakumar. The young man died in America in 2005. His parents and coworkers joined forces to start an educational project in his honor to serve the children of need in Chennai, India. The first habit-of-heart they pursued is Respect. The project began after many long months of determining how to fund the project and months of reconstruction to prepare the site that became space for the pilot project. It took sacrificial effort on the part of family and friends to do so. The completed academy overlooks Nishanthe's memorial.

Students at the school range from preschool through elementary school. Their first areas of focus included love, respect and sacrifice. During the birthday of Gandhi, they connected the sacrifices of this national hero with the habits students could practice in their own lives and communities.
