...to Offer the Gift of Self.

Zambian students in the Gifteria School walked the talk. Just one semester after their teachers had studied Full-Circle Learning, they got it.

Lesson plan units centered around Sacrifice, Love or Empathy had given the learners a chance not only to apply those qualities through their coursework and service, but to apply them with one another. Students in various classrooms had worked hard to put int...

...to Uplift Society.

Many traditions celebrate women who set examples of care for others and devotion to improving the human condition. Girls United Clubs in Zambia and Liberia discussed their progress this month in encouraging peers to upholding such a standard and encouraging their peers to stay in school and learn the many ways in which they can give back to society.

Meanwhile, it takes two genders to honor the role of wom...

..While Honoring Those Who Feed the Community

Dusty roads lead the way to St. Cecilia's village school and orphanage, in Zambia. Here, some of the children share a cot with the teachers. All appreciate what they have. Students do not see the supermarket as the source of their next meal but appreciate the hard work of farmers who grow the the maize so essential to quelling hunger in the region.

How does climate change contribute to food insecurity? What innovations increase the nutritional content of the soil while sequestering carbon? These questions inspired advocacy and action during an intense week at the 2018 Climate Change Agents Camp. Ea...

A school can earn its name because of its many HIV orphans and child brides or because of its acts of touching kindness. At a place called the "Cry Community School," the smallest children presented a gift to the oldest elder, this 83-year old woman. All the elders received gifts and songs from learners of all grade levels who had worked to raise money and written poems and songs in their honor.

Many FCL-trained community scho...

Mildred Academy students in Zambia wanted to reduce traffic deaths due to potholes during the floods. They walked down the bumpy road singing and collected rocks, demonstrating the habit of cooperation until the whole neighborhood came together to sing and cooperate to help them fill the potholes. They prevented future loss of life. Below you will see some participating students and the school's entrance. The pictures also sho...

Elisha, in the red shirt, uses his art as a gift of service, while the preschoolers pictured practiced sharing as a gift of friendship. Each teacher knows how to incorporate the habits-of-heart into academics at Blessed Vale, the school that hosted the community impact studies and training workshops this month in Zambia. The activities brought the number of Zambian Full-Circle Learning-trained schools up to 34.

We are excited to bring you words of thanks from a Zambian school where Dr. Farzin Rahmani recently brought equipment. Dr. Rahmani is a representative of one of the many schools in Zambia where teachers have been trained to help children change their communities through Full-Circle Learning. A teacher knows she has truly taught empathy if her students can  comfort her when her own heart is breaking.

Beauty Nzila, founder of the Blessed Vale School, deeply mourned the passing of her mother this year, so much that she had to take a brief respite from her duties at the school. She thought she would have to bear her burden alone. She did not anticipate that her middle school students would step up to provide the...
